As Singapore approaches National Day, MAS and IBF have launched a structured route into AI-driven finance careers, one that puts the Prime Minister's own vision into practice.
Every National Day invites a question. What kind of country is Singapore building next?
This year, the answer runs through Artificial Intelligence, and through a promise the government has made repeatedly in 2026: that AI will expand opportunity for Singaporean workers.
The Young Talent Programme for AI in Finance, or YTP-AIF, is where that promise becomes something students can actually apply for.
MAS and IBF have launched the Young Talent Programme for AI in Finance (YTP-AIF), a structured, funded pathway into AI-driven finance careers.
Eligibility is deliberately broad: undergraduates in their second to fourth years, from any discipline at Singapore's autonomous universities, can apply, not just finance or computing majors. The first cohort runs through a foundational AI masterclass, several weeks of applied project work on real problem statements from participating institutions, and a final presentation back to those institutions, with strong performers converting into internships, traineeships or full time roles.
Twenty financial institutions are on board from day one, including DBS, OCBC, JPMorgan, UOB and HSBC, with MAS and IBF targeting more than 1,000 internship and traineeship positions across the wider partnership over the coming year. Applications for the first cohort closed on 15 June, selected participants were notified by mid July, and the pilot begins this August.
Why the Timing Matters
This programme did not appear in isolation. It lands as Singapore's financial sector keeps scaling in the exact areas where AI fluency is now required. Total assets under management climbed to S$6.7 trillion by the end of 2025, helping Singapore break into the world's top five financial hubs for the first time. Family offices keep expanding hiring across investment operations, compliance and client advisory, and demand has stayed consistently strong for specialists in AI, data analytics, risk and compliance. Read against that backdrop, YTP-AIF looks like a long-term strategic investment.
